Fresh Flower Open Stack Cake

This weekend I went off to do an Open Stacked cake.  The first day was spent cutting, jam & buttercream/ crumb coating and icing the cakes, and the next day we went off to the florist to pick our flowers and make the decoration that we put on the cake. The afternoon was spent stacking and ribboning the cakes and putting the flowers around the cake.  I really enjoyed this course.

Sugar Paste Diploma - First Cake

My next diploma started last Sunday and the cake we had to make, became a demo cake with lots of different designs on it.  This is my favourite one.

Two more cakes baking at the moment to take along to class next week with the fruit cake I made a few weeks back.

Tim's Birthday Cake

After all that pink it was nice to use lots of fab colours again.  I loved the green that the board was iced in and the orange ribbons.
The inside of this cake was chocolate, which was the only request I had.

My Third Attempt at a stacked Cake - Butterflies and Candy Stripes

I really enjoyed making this cake.  I even used a few tools that I'd not come across before.  One was to cut the thick strips and the other was to put the thin strips either side of the thick ones.  Not sure I really liked all the trex that we had to use to create them though.  Still the over all effect I think looks good.

Second attempt at a stacked cake - Wonky Stacked Cake

This was supposed to be a wonky cake, but I think I need more practice on this one.

First attempt at a stacked cake

This is the first attempt I had at a stacked cake, and making non wired roses.  I was pretty impressed with my effort.  I've since made another two, stacked cake designs.  one another two tier and the other a 3 tier.

The Week Ahead

Last weekend I soaked the fruit for my cake and cooked it the next day with the rest of the ingredients for my next course which starts this Sunday.  Friday night I am going to bake my maderia cake for use on Sunday, and then Saturday I have to get the rest of my course material ready.  Really looking forward to the next 5 weeks and looking at different ways to use Sugarpaste.  I'm sure that this will give me even more ideas for cakes I will want to create.

I know the chief taster will be pleased with this.  After 5 weeks of making flowers he is pleased he will actually get to eat cake this time round :-)

Pictures to follow over the next couple of weeks.

Flower Burst

I made this cake in the late spring/ early summer and it was lovely to use such bright colours.  I took this theme and made an 18th birthday cake for a relative.  She loved it as much as I did. I kept the burst on the top but, everyone who had some of the cake loved it.

Birthday Cupcakes

These were the cupcakes that I made to take to work.  As most of the team are male I thought it was funny to see them eating pink cakes!!!

Butterflies and Flowers

I really like this cake which was one of the first basic decorating course I went on.

My Blog

Finally I have set up my blog to put all my lovely creations on and to show you what I've been up to.  As I have a few pictures of cakes I have already created there may be a fair few post once I get going.  Hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed making them.

Christmas Cake 2010

This year I made my own Christmas cake, which was great.  I really enjoyed making and decorating my cake and will definately be making this part of my Christmas ritual.
